Details we love!

Fantastic details I'd like to use in our weddings in Tuscany! :)

One of the most incredible things in this wedding is the way that all of the details perfectly complemented the naturally beautiful wedding.
To make sure guests were comfortable, the couple offered blankets to keep warm, lavender insect repellent to keep any bugs away, and flip-flops to save feet from high heels.
Ornate frames and a pale blue trim dress up the escort card display board.
Jennifer’s father is from Louisiana, so mint juleps were an appropriate signature cocktail.
Apples and apple branches from the property made their way into lush centerpieces, as did peach and white garden roses, passion vine, andromeda flowers, acorns, pears and dusty miller. Calligraphed place cards were tied to the back of chairs, each one marked with either a cow, chicken or radish, corresponding to their entree choice. Tables were covered with pale blue paisley linens from La Tavola, and set with scallop-edged dinner plates.
The bride’s mother baked small chocolate layer cakes. Flowers were arranged in a variety of silver vessels.

Dress up your mason jars

Take some of the flowers we made in this post , yarn, ribbon, lace and burlap to dress up some of our mason jars.
It was really simple- we just covered them in a fabric or tightly wrapped them in yarn.

messiest, merriest and whirliest DIY balls

The level of messiness involved in this project definitely warrants the great outdoors or a tarp covered floor in your home. However, I think you will find that the fun you had along the way and the final product makes the mess completely worth it!

Gather up:

  • Big balloon
  • Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Cotton yarn
  • 4 oz. White school glue
  • 1/2 cup of Corn starch
  • 1/4 cup of Warm water
  • Something to stir with
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Clear fast drying spray paint
  • Hanging lamp cord or fishing line (depending on your desired final product)
  • Container for mixing

1. Blow up a balloon. We kind of suggest not blowing it up to its maximum capacity so that it is rounder. We've also heard that an exercise ball works great if you want a huge globe!
2. After the balloon is inflated to it's desired size draw a circle with the sharpie around the balloon knot just large enough to accommodate whatever lighting method you choose. Note: If you are just wanting to hang the balls or use them in a vase then you don't need to leave a hole at all!
3. You will need to prepare your work area by laying down a tarp. We hung a shower curtain between two chairs and suspended the balloons by it with string so we could have plenty of working room.
4. Mix corn starch, glue and warm water together until it's not lumpy (too bad getting rid of cellulite isn't this easy).
5. Smear the petroleum jelly all over your balloon until it is completely coated. Note: We specifically left using rubber gloves out of these instructions. You should get messy. If we were concerned about keeping your hands clean this would have been called the "loveliest, merriest and whirliest DIY" not "messiest, merriest and whirliest DIY".
    6. Besides sharing in good company, it will go much faster if you have a friend help you with this. One of you begin feeding the yarn through the glue mix and handing it off to the other person to drape around the ball.7. Tuck the start and end pieces of yarn beneath other pieces of yarn. Begin wrapping the yarn around the balloon vertically at a comfortable tightness, and gradually switch to wrapping horizontally.8. After your ball has dried for 24 hours, you can pop the balloon! Use a chopstick to knock out any glue crystals that developed between strings.9. Spray the ball with clear fast drying spray paint outdoors.

    Chiffon and Tulle Flowers.... DIY!

DIY: Gorgeous Chiffon and Tulle Flowers

For this project you will need fabric - we used chiffon and tulle. Yardage needed will vary based on the number and size of flowers, as well as the fabric thickness. You'll also need a piece of paper, a pen, scissors, pins, needle and thread, glass seed beads, and a plain hair clip or comb.

DIY: Gorgeous Chiffon and Tulle Flowers

Ritagliare pattern.

To make a stencil first free hand a rose petal shape and cut out. Then retrace it five times on a larger sheet of paper to create a full flower shape. This will help you get an even pattern. Cut out pattern.

DIY: Gorgeous Chiffon and Tulle Flowers

Take some fabric and fold it into a square a little larger than your flower pattern. Pin the pattern to fabric and carefully cut out. Repeat this process until you have enough layers to make a full flower - the number of layers will vary depending on the weight of your fabrics and the size of your flower. The example shown here uses 26 layers.

DIY: Gorgeous Chiffon and Tulle Flowers

Stack flower cut outs, alternating fabric types and staggering petals. Use a needle and thread to secure them together at the center.

DIY: Gorgeous Chiffon and Tulle Flowers

Pinch together the center of the flower (from the bottom) and secure with stitches to create volume and give the flower and authentic shape.
